Weight loss is always on our minds in one way or another. Whether we are looking to eat healthier or workout more regularly, health and fitness is a part of our lives. However, it can be difficult to make the time and effort for our health.
With 2014 coming to a close, and a beginning of a new year, it’s a great time to begin writing your goals for 2015. Here’s a weight-loss tip that will guarantee success!
Recently, I read an article about a fitness tip titled, “Three miles or 30 minutes.” Essentially, the goal is to work out in some way every day. You have two choices: run, walk, or bike three miles a day, or do a 30-minute workout instead.
This workout tip is from Pilates instructor Kit Rich. Here is the original article I read from popsugar.com, which also includes some suggestions for 30-minute workouts.
The reason this workout tip is effective because it allows you to stay balanced. You don’t need to go to the gym for two hours to have a successful workout. It’s best to incorporate manageable workouts in your routine. This will bring better results to your health and fitness goals.
My first New Year’s resolution is to follow the mantra of the “Three miles or 30 minutes.” Leave a comment below or like this post if you want to follow the challenge, too.
I hope you all enjoy the rest of your day, and I will talk to you on Monday!

This time of year can lead to stressful breakouts and other skin problems. It’s important to treat skin effectively. Sometimes, drugstore products can be helpful, however it might be better to use ingredients you have at home.
Here are my top three do-it-yourself treatments to fix blackheads.
Create a mix of honey and lemon juice. This is considered to be one of the most popular blackhead removers. Honey works wonders for the skin, especially to get rid of acne and blackheads. Applying organic honey to your skin once a week can get rid of stubborn acne. For blackheads, mix some lemon juice with organic honey. Lemon juice helps clear your skin as well as brighten it, which is perfect for winter.
Mint toothpaste is your solution for troublesome blackheads. Apply a layer of toothpaste on your nose and leave it until it’s dry. Wipe it off using a wet washcloth. Repeat this process twice a week. This is an inexpensive treatment as you already use toothpaste on a daily basis.
Baking soda mixed with water is another inexpensive treatment for your skin. Create a paste-like consistency with the baking soda and water. Leave it on the problem area for 15 to 20 minutes before washing it off. You can repeat this process more regularly (three times a week) for best results.
Aside from these at-home remedies, there are other ways to prevent blackheads. For example, eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. A healthy diet filled with rich nutrients will help keep your skin healthy, which will prevent future skin problems like blackheads.

Now that winter is around the corner, it’s important to create a cardio-focused routine. Don’t stop weight training two or three times a week, however, include consistent cardio to achieve positive results.
Here are my three favorite methods to exercise in winter:
HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training): HIIT is a great way to customize your favorite workout to increase fat-burning results. Some examples include: spinning, running, elliptical, etc. For example, if you’re running, you want to have two distinct periods: your rest period and “race” period. Begin by sprinting for 30 seconds, then jog moderately for 60 seconds. Repeat these two steps for 10 minutes. Your results will be incredible however you decide to incorporate this method in your schedule.
Spinning: One of my favorite methods of cardio is spinning class. Spinning is wonderful for your legs, abs and posture; it’s a full-body workout. Spinning class, similar to HIIT, using interval training. Interval training increases your heart rate so you can burn more calories in less time. Classes are fun because you feel energized from the instructor and the powerful music. There’s never a dull moment during a class.
Kickboxing: Whether you attend a class at the gym or complete a DVD/TV program at home, kickboxing is another method of training you should add to your schedule this winter. Here are some of the benefits of kickboxing: you can burn up to 750 calories an hour. It provides resistance-training benefits, which means less weightlifting. And, it’s a full-body workout that incorporates cardio training. What are your favorite exercises to complete in winter? Have you ever tried HIIT, spinning or kickboxing? I can’t believe there is one month left in the year of 2014. With 30 days left, it’s time to make the most of the year. Here are my favorites for the month of November:
Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin body wash: I am obsessed with Bath & Body products. Their body products contain moisturizing aloe vera, vitamin E and shea butter to give you a clean, refreshed wash that won’t dry out your skin. I love the combination of scents in this body wash including heirloom pumpkin, crisp apple and fresh ginger.
EOS lip balm: I love EOS lip products. Although I own every flavor of EOS lip blams (there are 10 flavors) yes I know, I’m a hoarder. When I saw they were adding two new flavors (Coconut milk and Vanilla mint) I knew I had to purchase them. I have been using Coconut milk all month and I love it.
Buxom lip gloss: I’m have a set of six Buxom lip glosses for the last year, and I’m still loving them. I love that they don’t contain parabens or sulfates, which can be harmful if used in beauty products. If you want a lip gloss that gives a natural plumping effect, this is the lip gloss for you.
Lancôme Hypnôse Drama mascara: Although this product is a little pricey, it offers great results and instant lash drama in a single coat with no clumping or flaking. There is a triple coating system that delivers a creamy application to easily build big lashes.
Garnier Fructis hair oil: I love using hair oil because they have a lot of all-purpose benefits. Some of the benefits of Garnier Fructis marvelous oil frizz defy 5-action hair elixir include smoothing frizzy hair and adding shine without greasy residue. If you’re looking for a all-in-one product to transform your hair, this is a great product for you.

Nuts: Filled with fiber (1/4 cup is around four grams of fiber), nuts help lower cholesterol in addition to keeping you full for a long time. Nuts digest slowly, so they stay in your stomach longer than other carbohydrates.
Mint: Mint is an effective appetite suppressant. Drink mint tea if you are trying to cut back on oversnacking. It’s also great if you’re looking for a relaxing drink at nighttime.
Eggs: One of the best protein-packed food to eat for breakfast are eggs. Whether you eat them scrambled or fried, studies have shown eggs can control your appetite for up to 36 hours.
Oatmeal: Another powerful breakfast food is oatmeal; a half a cup of rolled oats contains approximately five grams of fiber, which keeps you feeling full. Mix in blueberries and cinnamon for your morning breakfast to keep you full until lunch.
Apples: Apples are a great source of fiber to keep you feeling full. The high water content in apples helps fill you as well. Apples also contain pectin, which can help prevent blood sugar spikes that spur hunger.
What foods do you eat that help you feel full throughout the day? Make sure to leave a comment below or tweet your suggestions to @BlissBrunette! Enjoy the rest of your day and I will talk to you on Monday.
Sweater: $39.97 from Century 21
Leggings: $15 from GAP

Booties: $44.99 from Target
Tomorrow is the day where you can eat seven courses in one sitting without other people judging you. Besides, everyone else is doing it, so you shouldn’t feel bad. I know I’ll be overeating, so it’s important to dress comfortably on Thanksgiving.
Put away the jeans, or any other tight-fitting clothing because this look is about comfort. I created this look for the girl who is looking to stay comfortable and presentable on Thanksgiving. If you’re looking for some outfit inspiration, make sure to keep reading!
I know I’m not the only person who loves leggings. I would live in them if they were appropriate for any occasion. (Are they appropriate for weddings yet?) I wanted leggings to be included because elastic is a beautiful creation, and should be worn on a day filled with eating. I paired them with a long sweater from Century 21. This will keep you warm and comfortable during the day.
For accessories, I decided to keep it simple with black booties and a black bag. I’ve been loving ankle boots this season because it’s a nice break from knee-high boots. It’s good to mix it up once in awhile.
One of my favorite sayings is “less is more,” and I think this outfit perfectly encompasses that saying. We can all minimize our looks in some way. Pairing a few simple items can create a beautiful outfit for a holiday spent with family.
What are you wearing for Thanksgiving tomorrow? Make sure to leave me a comment or tweet me @BlissBrunette. Enjoy the rest of your day and I will talk to you on Friday! Happy Thanksgiving.
One product I can’t live without is dry shampoo. Over a year ago, I washed my hair every single day before I learned how bad it is for your hair.
Nowadays, I can style my hair two full days in between washes thanks to dry shampoo. But, I have become obsessed with trying different brands to find what works well for my hair.
I have been using TRESemmé renewing dry shampoo for several months, and it’s an incredible product. Since I’m always looking for new products to try, I picked up the Herbal Essences dry shampoo for $5.49.
I love Herbal Essences hair products, so I thought it would be a good purchase. Unfortunately, there was one major mishap with this product.
Although the quality of the dry shampoo is by far the BEST I have used in the last year, the nozzle breaks after a few uses, which leave the can usable and wastes the product. I went online after buying and found that most of the reviews included this same issue. I was thankful I wasn’t the only person experiencing this problem.
I would easily give this product five stars if it weren’t for the poorly-made packaging. Aside from the breaking can, I love that this product is free of parabens and dye and that it smells better than most dry shampoos.
If you have experienced the same issue with the Herbal Essences dry shampoo, please leave a comments below or tweet me at @BlissBrunette to let me know! I hope you enjoy the rest of your day and I will talk to you on Wednesday!
There are a million reasons why Christmastime is the most wonderful time of the year. But, oftentimes, we forget about the beauty and happiness during the season and are left unhappy, unhealthy and stressed. Here are my five tips to have a healthy holiday season.
Stay active: Make sure you’re working out at least 30 minutes each day during this time of year in addition to daily shopping trips, mall walking, etc. Or, join a holiday race of 5k to stay active during the holidays. You can stay active while making a difference.
Make healthier recipes: You don’t have to eat heavy, holiday food from Thanksgiving to New Years Eve. Find healthy recipes that your family and friends will enjoy in addition to mashed potatoes and stuffing. You’ll thank yourself when Jan. 1 rolls around.
Use a smaller plate: If you’re working on eating consciously, try eating meals on a smaller plate. This will give the illusion that you’re eating more when you’re actually eating proper portions. On Thanksgiving and Christmas day, you can put away the plate as a reward for your hard work in between holidays.
Say no: Not only does holiday health include fitness and food, but also mental and emotional health. Holidays are a time of giving, but don’t give up all of your spare time. You’ll be stressed during the happiest time of he year. Say no and give yourself a break. You deserve it.
Embrace the holiday season: Walk outside in the snow, spend an extra day with your family watching movies, bake cookies, give a gift to a stranger. Embrace the elements Christmas brings each year. There’s a reason why it’s the most wonderful time of the year, so make it wonderful.
What are your tips on staying stress-free during the holidays? Make sure to leave your tips in the comments below or tweet them to @BlissBrunette on Twitter. Enjoy your weekend and I will talk to you on Monday.
