As a senior in college, I know that my days of relaxing in yoga pants are coming to an end. With an exciting journey ahead, it’s important to establish a professional wardrobe for internship, job interviews, etc. Here are my five must-haves for professional attire.

1. Black Heels: Madden Girl, $39.95. I’ve owned these shoes for a few years and couldn’t be happier. They’re comfortable to wear all day long and complement any style or outfit. Black heels are a staple when it comes to professional dress.

2. Timeless Bag: Nordstrom, $54. Opt for a tote bag that has plenty of space for your essentials and a little more space for your planner, folder for work materials, etc.

3. Blazer: H&M: $24.95. A blazer doesn’t have to be the most expensive item you own. Although bold-colored blazers are fun upgrade, buying a black blazer will create versatility in your professional wardrobe.

4. Button-down shirt: GAP, $41.99. Make sure your shirt is both comfortable and well-fitting. Button-down shirts are another staple you will need for interviews, meetings, etc. Have different colors available for alternative options.

5. Modest Dress: Nordstrom: $34.80. Last, but not least, find a dress you can wear for any occasion. Weather it’s an interview or drinks after work, purchase a dress that is versatile, modest and comfortable.

Just because you need to add professional items to your wardrobe, doesn’t mean to you need to break your bank account. Take the time to find quality clothes for an affordable price. New Blogging Opportunity

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a relaxing weekend. I want to fill you guys in on a new blogging opportunity I received last week, and how I plan to share my upcoming work with you guys!

Last week, I was asked to be a contributing fashion writer for the blog, “What’s Going On In Buffalo.” For those who don’t know, Buffalo is my home city even though I go away to St. Bonaventure for most of the year. The blog itself is self-explanatory. There are several bloggers who contribute posts regarding the city of Buffalo including: sports, food, jobs, music and art, real estate, and beauty and fashion (my category)! You all know how much I love writing about beauty and fashion, so having the chance to write even more posts about what I’m passionate about is a blessing. 10 Ways to Reduce Stress


Life can be hectic sometimes, so it’s important to have stress-relieving techniques available for the days you need them most. Here are some simple ways to reduce stress easily.

1. Take a bath: Yes, be a stereotypical “girl” and draw warm water and add your favorite bubble bath. I recommend anything from Lush, especially this adorable Wizard for Halloween! Your muscles will relax and you’ll relieve any tension and stress.

2. Drink tea: Make sure to actively enjoy your tea. Sit in the quiet, relax and drink your tea. Green tea has so many health benefits including a stress-relieving component.

3. Laugh: Watch funny videos on YouTube or a comedy on TV. Find your favorite comedian. Laugh a lot and you’ll change your mood instantly.

4. Talk to someone: Whether it’s a relative, friend, significant other or your dog, talking always helps. Mention that you need to vent, allow yourself ten minutes to rant then move on and talk about the good in your life.

5. Listen to music: Blast your favorite Taylor Swift song and shake it off because there’s nothing a little music can’t fix. Or, try to listen to soothing soundscapes (music mostly played at spas) and relax.

6. Walk it out: Being surrounded in nature can drastically change your mood and stress levels. Go outside and take a 30-minute walk. Your endorphins will increase and your stress will decrease.

7. Read: Reading reduces stress because you’re leaving the problems of your life and entering the problems of someone else and their life. You’ll forget your troubles and be mentally engaged with reading.

8. Breathe: Sit and breathe slowly and consistently. Maybe even pull out some yoga moves while you’re at it. (Tree pose, anyone?) This will lower stress levels and give you a sense of peace.

9. Meditate: Meditation is a great activity for your mind, body and soul. Although it may seem difficult to be still and aware of the present moment, you can read about how to accomplish this if you’re a beginner. Check out this article here for tips.

10. Give thanks: Buy a journal. Each day, write down at least ten things you’re thankful for that happened that day. This practice has change my life. Sitting down to write out your blessing will change your mood, outlook and stress.

There’s nothing I love more than wearing scarves during this time of year, especially with bold colors such as this green top from Ann Taylor Loft. They unfortunately don’t have the exact color I’m wearing in the photos above. I paired this top with jeans from Old Navy and flats from Designer Shoe Warehouse. My scarf was a gift, so I can’t link the exact one (sorry)!

Favorite fall lipstick colors


I love experimenting with lip colors during fall! Here are some of the colors that I can’t lie without this season:

top left: Sexy Game (#12): Having a neutral pink is a necessity for fall. I love that this color is subtle but still buildable.

bottom left: The Red (#04): Red lipstick will never go out of style. Opt for a deeper red this season for a bold upgrade.

top right: Truth or Dare (#41): A dark purple is perfect for those who want to try a unique, fall color.

bottom right: Mr. Lover (#10): This bold, fuchsia lipstick will brighten any fall date you have this season.

Fight the fall flu

Fight Fall Flu

Although this is my favorite time of year, it can be the an unhealthy time with flu season. Luckily, I haven’t caught the flu bug this year (knock on wood) so I wanted to share my top tips on how to stay flu free this fall.

Running: I’m shocked with my health since I began running. Running helps build your immune system, which fights the flu. It’s also good for your mental and emotional health by decreasing stress. Running is easy to incorporate in your routine to see the benefits. Try 15-20 minutes a day and you’ll improve your health significantly.

Water: Specifically fruit-infused water is great for your body. Water will keep you hydrated and flush out any toxins while keeping your skin clear! Double up on water this fall to fight the flu. Adding fruit increases your intake of antioxidants, improving your overall health.

Sleep: Don’t skip out on this important necessity! It has been proven that your immune system weakens if you don’t have a regular sleep schedule. Opt for eight to nine hours a night consistently and you’ll see a change in your mood and health.

Green tea, honey and lemon: This is a flu-fighting miracle. Green tea has a long list of health benefits. Adding honey and lemon only enhances those benefits. If you’re a coffee lover (like me) try tea for a relaxing change. Green tea will not only help your metabolism, but also overall immune health.

Wash your hands: I don’t think I need to explain myself here, but if you increase the amount you wash your hands, you won’t get sick. I wash my hands a lot more this year and believe it’s the main reason I haven’t been sick.

Updated skin care routine 2014


I am thankful I found a list of products that work well for my skin type. I have sensitive, combination skin, which means I have some dry patches, oily spots, etc. I also have a history of stress acne.  It’s important to find out what type of skin you have and purchase products for that type.

I use six products on a daily or weekly basis (pictured above). Beginning at the top left corner is the Epiduo spot treatment. I apply this at night when I have noticeable breakouts on my skin, which (thankfully) isn’t often anymore. With this product, you must have a doctor’s prescription. Although it’s expensive, it has changed my skin for the better.

The next product I use every night is the Lancôme bienfait multi-vital cream. Although this product is a little pricey ($46) I have noticed a huge difference in my skin with softness. You can purchase this at any store where Lancôme products are sold.

The Estēe Lauder pore minimizing skin refinisher is a product I use every morning along with the Day Wear moisturizer ($50) also by Estēe Lauder. Both products are great for my skin because they don’t leave it feeling oily, but they also don’t dry my skin out.

On a weekly or bi-weekly basis, I apply regular honey to my skin because honey has amazing beauty benefits, especially for fighting acne. I recommend using honey to anyone who has acne problems. You will notice a difference in a few weeks.

The last product I use twice a day is the Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser. This product has received numerous awards for its acne-fighting agents. It also leaves skin soft after washing. I have used this cleanser for around five years now, and I couldn’t be happier. It’s very inexpensive ($8) for a large quantity and it never fails to keep my skin clean, clear and controlled.

Foods for weight loss

You know about the foods you shouldn’t eat to lose weight, but  do you know about the foods you should be eating? We assume all fruits and vegetables are perfect options for weight loss. But, it’s about what specific foods help trigger your metabolism. It’s important to select the top foods for weight loss and add them into a regular diet.

index    Berries like blackberries, raspberries, blueberries and strawberries are fat-burning foods for weight loss because they have few carbohydrates and are low in sugar compared to other fruits. Berries eliminate toxins and other harmful materials, which detoxifies the body. Berries also promote heart health by removing bad cholesterol from the body. The fiber content in berries slows down the digestion and absorption of added sugar.

It’s also one of the super foods for weight loss because consuming complex carbohydrates burns more fat rather than eating simple carbohydrates. Oatmeal decreases your appetite by keeping you full longer with it’s high-fiber content. Eat oatmeal one to two hours before working out will help you to work out for longer, which helps with weight loss. Oats are also rich in protein, which increases strength and lowers body fat.

bananasBananas are filled with soluble fiber that prevents eating comfort foods. Starch in bananas also prevents the absorption of carbohydrates in the body. The body burns fat instead of carbohydrates. Potassium in bananas helps to build muscles, which also burns fat.

Cucumber on WhiteCucumbers are one of the best low-calorie foods for weight loss. They contain high amounts of water and are amazing for your skin because they reduce puffiness (prefect for under your eyes). Cucumbers are a great source of silica, a mineral required for strengthening the connective tissues.

indexLemons remove toxins from your liver. Maintaining your liver is essential for the body’s ability to metabolize and burn fat. It tastes acidic, but can alkalize the bodily fluids and tissues. Drink a glass of lemon water daily morning to prevent fat build up. If you drink warm lemon water, you’ll rev up your metabolism, too.

OOTD: Black and Blue
